I guess an apology is in order…

How can you be mad at that face?

Yes, I failed…I promised to write more and then I don’t know what happened. I’ve been suffering a bad case of the winter doldrums. If this sounds like an excuse, it kinda is but when you combine it with several other factors, how can you blame me? Posting on Twitter has taken off really easily, but I guess that’s expected when one can update anywhere, anytime about anything!

I wasn’t completely inactive for the past couple of months, since November alot has happened actually. Here are some of the highlights: joined the Integrated Marketing Communications Committee of NY Women in Communications,  survived my first round of finals for grad school, actively participated in 2 mentoring programs, turned 22,  had 4 interviews, one temporary job, got published for the first time in two years, went to some amazing Social Media Week events, and started doing some freelance work.

Now that you’re midly caught up with the life of this reformed slacker, tell me what’s going on with you. What have you done, wish you did, seen and experienced?

Up-ing the Ante

While I was at the New York Women in Communications Student Conference on Saturday, I started thinking about how I use social media. The first thing I realized was that I don’t use it enough, the second is that I’m not using for the right things. This inspiration came from the advice that Jennifer Preston, Social Media Editor at the New York Times, gave the students. She urged us all to ask ourselves, “Am I bringing value?” with every message that we send out in social media.

So I’ve decided to “up the ante”. The challenge is to tweet something of value at least once a day and write a blog post every week for the next month. Then the following month will be two tweets a day and a two blog posts a week, so on and so forth. There really isn’t a specific endpoint or measure of success but more of a practice in bringing value to my image online. I’m really looking forward to see if challenging myself actually works or will I end up falling off the wagon??

3 1/2 Months, 2 jobs and 7 weeks of Grad school later…

So it’s been quite some time since I wrote. Not since my first post to be exact, but that’s going to change today. I’ve learned alot in past couple of months, had wonderful and terrible experiences and been all over Manhattan. Something that hasn’t changed is my devotion to this project. While I know that the experiences that I continue to have are going to shape how and when this non profit get started, I’ve realized that its going to take a bit more than just knowing what I want to do. So I might not write every day but anticipate it more than every three months. Who knows maybe something will appear by the end of the week.

I would just like to thank everyone that decides to follow me on this adventure, through this blog I hope to test out alot of my theories in combining two big passions: Public Relations and Art History. I know that when you think of one the other doesn’t always follow, but I like to be an optimist. So here’s what you can expect from reading my ramblings,

1) A complete documentation of the creation of a non-profit organization
2) Lots of crazy ideas (with me only 1 of 10 ideas is ever usable)
3) The opportunity to be a part of completely unique experience

As time goes on and my ideas get more developed, I urge you to send me feedback and your ideas as well. Hopefully, one day these thoughts will come to life and you all, my dear readers would have seen it all grown up. But for now, I’m just going to get the basics down.
